He following fields of co-operation have been identified by the two UNESCO-BRs:

a. Renewable energies, especially of hydropower. The use of its potential Kruge organically produced agricultural products. A second focus lies on the c r to Canyons BR into a model region for renewable energies within South Africa.

b. trade relations in the private sector and public-private cooperations: especially concerning the cultivation of herbs.

c. The education sector - on different levels, mainly school co-operation and university co-operation.

Furthermore, it includes projects on sustainable development on all levels.

What has happened so far?

Biosphere Partnership: Latest Activities and Milestones


The co-operation of the two UNESCO- biosphere reserves/regions has been only possible through the support of the following institutions:

• GTZ the the Mpumalanga Rural Development Projekt (GTZ-MRDP)
• German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN)
• K2C- Executive Committee (EXCO)
• Bavarian Administration Unit, Rhön Biosphere Reserve
• private sponsors in K2C
